What is Mebeverine HCl?

Mebeverine Hydrochloride (HCl) is an antispasmodic medication used to treat symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and other functional bowel disorders. It works by relaxing the smooth muscles of the gut, reducing spasms, and relieving pain and discomfort.

Mechanism of Action

Mebeverine acts directly on the smooth muscle of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Unlike other antispasmodics, it does not affect normal gut motility or cause excessive relaxation. It works by:

Blocking calcium channels in the intestinal smooth muscle

Inhibiting sodium and potassium movement, preventing excessive contractions

Reducing painful spasms without altering normal bowel function

Indications (Uses)

Mebeverine HCl is commonly prescribed for:
 Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) (abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea, and constipation)

Dosage and Administration
