How does it work:

Nicotine stimulates the release of chemical messengers (hormones and neurotransmitters) in our nervous system that stimulate different parts of our brain and body. The hormone epinephrine, also known as adrenaline, is affected by nicotine. In comparison with cigarettes, nicotine polacrilex gum provides a lower level of nicotine to your bloodstream, so you gradually reduce your nicotine intake.

In order to successfully stop smoking, it is added to gums and hard lozenges. Polymers are used as a delivery system to maximize release and absorption of nicotine by the mucosa of the mouth. The mouth absorbs 80 to 90 percent of the nicotine released by the gum.

You can stop smoking with this medication since it replaces the nicotine in cigarettes. Tobacco is highly addictive due to its nicotine content. Nicotine levels drop rapidly after you stop smoking.

How to use:

You should chew the gum very slowly until it tingles, then place it between your cheek and gum. Do so until the tingling stops. Continue chewing until the tingle returns when the tingle is gone. You should feel most of the nicotine gone after 30 minutes.

• Smoking Cessation:
• Weeks 1-6: A piece of gum every 1-2 hours; Chew 9 pieces per day for the first 6 weeks to increase your chances of quitting.
•  Weeks 7-9: A piece of gum every 2-4 hours
• Weeks 10-12: A piece of gum every 4-8 hours
• 25 cigarettes or more/day: Start with 4 mg
• Strong/frequent cravings, may use the another piece within one hour

Side effects:

Hives, difficulty breathing and swelling (face, lips, tongue, or throat) are signs of an allergic reaction. Seek medical attention immediately if you exhibit these symptoms. Nicotine Polacrilex shouldn't be used, and you should contact your doctor at once if you experience fast or pounding heartbeats, trouble breathing, mouth blisters; fluttering in your chest; teeth or jaw problems; or wheezing, and tightness in your chest.

Common side effects are headache, dizziness, upset stomach, burping, mouth or throat soreness and changes in taste.

Nicotine gum is included in this medication. Nicorette Gum should not be taken if you are allergic to nicotine gum or any of the ingredients within it. Do not give to children.
