  • Hydroquinone has a variety of uses, primarily in the fields of medicine, cosmetics, and industry. Some of the common applications include: Skin Lightening and Hyperpigmentation Treatment: Hydroquinone is widely used in skincare products for its ability to lighten skin. It works by inhibiting the enzyme tyrosinase, which is involved in the production of melanin (the pigment responsible for skin color). It is commonly found in treatments for hyperpigmentation disorders like age spots, freckles, melasma, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Antioxidant and Reducing Agent: In industrial applications, hydroquinone is used as a stabilizer and antioxidant, particularly in products like photographic developers and plastics. It helps prevent the oxidation of materials. Photographic Development: Hydroquinone is a key component in photographic developers. It helps reduce silver halides to form an image in photographic film and paper. Chemical Synthesis: It is used as a reagent in the synthesis of other chemicals, including certain drugs, dyes, and resins. In Hair Dyes: Hydroquinone is sometimes used in hair dye formulations, though it is less common than other chemicals. Preservative in Some Products: Hydroquinone acts as a preservative in certain cosmetics and personal care products, helping to prevent the oxidation of active ingredients.

Product Description

Hydroquinone USP by Shreeji Pharma International, a Gujarat based company, is a topical medicine. The pigment melanin is responsible for the color of the skin and hair. A freckles or dark patch of skin is caused by this. Melanocytes, which reside in the skin and elsewhere in the body, produce melanin. Applying hydroquinone to the skin reduces melanocytes. As a result, fewer melanocytes are produced in the treated area. The skin generally appears lighter after about four weeks. The effects of hydroquinone are reversed by sunlight. Doctors recommend that anyone using this product use a strong sunscreen as well.

Applications Or where it is used:

The goal of using hydroquinone is to lighten dark patches of skin, such as hyperpigmentation (also known as melasma), liver spots, or age spots. These dark areas are caused by pregnancy, birth control pills, hormone medicines, or trauma to the skin. In order to work, this medicine blocks the process that causes discoloration in the skin.

How to use:

Cleanse the area(s) to be bleached and dry it before applying a thin layer of cream. Ensure the cream is well absorbed. Only apply to the affected areas and avoid using on normal skin, as that will also lighten. It is recommended to wash your hands after applying unless they are treated areas.

Side effects:

Some of the side effects of hydroquinone are:

  • Mild skin irritation and sensitization (burning, stinging)
  • Inflammatory reaction
  • Dermatitis
  • Dryness
  • Redness
