Product Description

Olanzapine is an atypical antipsychotic used in treating schizophrenia and bipolar disorder among others. It is available under the trade name Zyprexa, among others. Schizophrenia can be treated initially as well as on a long-term basis with it. The medication olanzapine is used to treat schizophrenia by acting on the brain. Second-generation antipsychotics (SGA) and atypical antipsychotics are both terms used to describe it. Dopamine and serotonin are rebalanced with olanzapine to improve mood, cognition, and behavior.

Olanzapine Properties:

  • CAS ID: 132539-06-1
  • Molecular formula: C17H20N4S
  • Molecular Weight: 312.4
  • Synonyms: Zyprexa
  • Melting point: 195 C
  • Boiling point: 476 C
  • Solubility: Practically in insoluble in water
  • Description: yellow crystalline solid

How does it work:

Atypical antipsychotics include olanzapine. A drug class is a group of medications that act similarly. Similar conditions are typically treated with these drugs.

Applications Or where it is used:

As a result of its effects on certain dopamine receptors in the brain, olanzapine helps to stabilize excessive dopamine activity. Other neurotransmitters in the brain, including serotonin (5-HT), are also affected by olanzapine, which may contribute to its positive effects.

How to use:

To take olanzapine by mouth, there are tablets and orally disintegrating tablets (tablets that dissolve quickly in the mouth). They can be taken with food or without. Do it around the same time every day.

Dosage of usage:
  • Adult Dosage Forms & Strengths: Tablet 2.5 mg, 5 mg, 7.5 mg, 10 mg, 15 mg, 20 mg
  • Intramuscular (IM), extended-release suspension: 210 mg/vial, 300 mg/vial, 405 mg/vial
  • Pediatric Dosage Forms & Strengths: Tablet 2.5 mg, 5 mg, 7.5 mg, 10 mg, 15 mg, 20 mg

Side effects:

If you have a serious reaction to a drug that can affect multiple body systems, seek medical attention. It can cause skin rash, fever, swollen glands, muscle pain, weakness, unusual bruising, or yellowing of the skin or eyes. Olanzapine can cause a serious unreversible movement disorder if taken in high doses or for a long time. As you use olanzapine longer, you are more likely to develop this disorder, especially if you are female or older.

Call your doctor at once if you have:
  • Uncontrolled muscle movements in your face
  • Trouble speaking or swallowing
  • Signs of dehydration
  • Liver problems
  • High blood sugar
  • Swelling in hands or feet
  • Confusion, unusual thoughts, hallucinations
  • Low white blood cell counts
  • Severe nervous system reaction

  • Dry mouth, or increased salivation
  • Stomach pain, constipation
  • Weight gain and increased appetite
  • Headache, dizziness, drowsiness, feeling tired or restless
