Uses:
Among those at high risk of cardiovascular disease, atorvastatin is used to treat abnormal lipid levels and prevent cardiovascular disease. Statins are a first-line treatment for cardiovascular disease prevention. It is taken orally.
How does it work:
The drug is a HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin). By slowing the production of cholesterol in the body, this medicine decreases the amount that can build up on the walls of arteries, blocking blood flow to the heart, brain, and other body parts.
Applications. Or where it is used:
With atorvastatin and a proper diet, bad cholesterol and fats can be reduced (such as LDL and triglycerides) while raising "good" cholesterol (HDL). Statins work by reducing cholesterol production in the liver.
Manufacturing process:
The first step in the production of Atorvastatin is hydrolysis of boronate compound under basic conditions and then lactonization of free Atorvastatin acid, which results in calcium salt formation with calcium chloride dihydrate.
How to use:
Atorvastatin is taken by mouth as a tablet. Most people take it once a day either with or without food. The same time every day should be set aside for taking atorvastatin. It is important that you follow your prescription label very carefully, and if you do not understand any part of it, ask your pharmacist or doctor.
Dosage of usage:
Adult dosage (ages 1864 years)
- Typical starting dosage: 1020 mg taken once per day.
- Typical maintenance dosage: 1080 mg taken once per day.
Child dosage (ages 017 years)
Atorvastatin is not approved for use in children younger than 18 years old to prevent heart disease.
Senior dosage (ages 65 years and older)

It's possible that your doctor will reduce your dose or change your medication schedule. You can use this method to prevent the level of this drug from building up too much in your system.
