Butylated Hydroxytoluene (BHT) is chemically derived from phenol and is a lipophilic organic compound. It is widely used because of its antioxidant properties. This organic compound is also known as dibutyl hydroxytoluene. It is helpful for preventing oxidation in fluids like fuel, oil, etc. as well as in other materials where free radicals must be controlled. This compound is also used as a food additive in small amounts. It is used as an antioxidant in various products such as cosmetics, rubber, pharmaceuticals, electrical transformer oil and embalming fluid.
